A hair transplant is a surgical procedure where hair follicles are transplanted from one part of the body (usually the back or sides of the scalp) to areas with hair loss. This process aims to restore or improve hair density in areas affected by baldness. The procedure can be done using various techniques, such as Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE) or Strip Harvesting (FUT). In our practice, we prefer and recommend the FUE technique, as it is more reliable and does not leave scars on the scalp. The procedure is typically performed under local anesthesia or local anesthesia with sedation. The final result usually is natural and permanent hair in the treated areas.

Step-by-Step Procedure:

Medical Evaluation: The patient’s eligibility for the procedure will be determined, any questions will be answered, and it will be decided if one or more sessions are needed to achieve the desired result. Some exams may be requested to assess the general health before the procedure.

On the Day of the Procedure:

1. Marking the area to be treated.

2. Performing the necessary asepsis and antisepsis.

3. Administering local anesthesia and, if needed, sedation.

4. Extracting hair follicles one by one from the usual occipital area using special motors imported from Turkey.

5. Preparing the collected grafts.

6. Making incisions on the scalp with sapphire tips in the areas where the grafts will be implanted (recipient area).

7. Implanting each follicle into its recipient area.

8. Ensuring everything is in order, checking that bleeding is not excessive, the patient is stable, and providing clear recommendations and signs of alarm.

9. Discharge: outpatient procedure.

Note: The same procedure can be performed for beard and eyebrow implants.

Pre-Surgery Instructions:

Two weeks before surgery:

❖ Avoid anti-inflammatory medications like aspirin, ibuprofen, diclofenac, etc., as they affect blood clotting and may increase bleeding during surgery. If you have any pain, only acetaminophen is allowed.

❖ Inform us if you are taking any herbal medications, vitamins, or natural supplements, as some may cause issues during surgery. Ideally, suspend them at least a week before the procedure (Gingko-biloba / Omega3 / Multivitamins).

❖ Notify us if you have a cold, injury, or any other condition during this period.

❖ Smoking can affect healing; please stop smoking at least 15 days before the procedure.

One week before surgery:

• Sign consent forms for the procedure with the surgeons.

Post-Surgery Instructions:

1. Spray water on the head, especially on the treated area, every 3 hours to keep it hydrated. Micellar water can be used as well. This should be done during the first week.

2. Keep the head elevated for a week – semi-sitting position, especially using a travel pillow (for added peace of mind, it can be wrapped in a diaper to absorb potential bleeding).

3. Avoid washing the head in the shower for the first 5 days, strictly following the doctor’s instructions.

4. Apply a mixture of Johnson’s shampoo and water in a spray bottle twice daily to facilitate the removal of crusts and keep the area clean. This should be done from day 6 of the surgery until day 15, when gentle, non-abrasive showering can begin.

5. Avoid wearing hats or any headwear that will come into contact with the treated area.

6. Avoid immersion baths for the first 3 months after the procedure (pool, sauna, jacuzzi).

7. Avoid sun exposure for at least one month after the intervention.

8. Take prescribed medications (antibiotic use is mandatory!).

9. Avoid strenuous activities such as mopping, sweeping, ironing, lifting children, or heavy objects for 1 week.

10. Remember to attend the follow-up appointment at the clinic.

11. For any doubts, it is best to contact the available staff.
